Junior College Defensive Tackle Commits to Oklahoma State

first_imgThe Cowboys added another commitment to their 2017 recruiting class on Wednesday with the announcement coming from Fua Leilua that his intent is to transfer from junior college to Stillwater.https://twitter.com/jlei44/status/799071584262701060Leilua is a 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive tackle built from the same mold of defensive line mainstay Mote Maile, who will complete his eligibility this season. He is the third defensive lineman to commit to OSU joining Brock Martin and Brendon Evers, and it appears the de-commitment of defensive end Nelson Mbanasor opened up the spot on the defensive front. With this news, don’t be surprised if OSU elects to take one more defensive end in this class to pair alongside Martin as the Cowboys near national signing day in February. Oklahoma State Suddenly in a Good Spot Heading Down the Stretch

first_imgWhile you’re here, we’d like you to consider subscribing to Pistols Firing and becoming a PFB+ member. It’s a big ask from us to you, but it also comes with a load of benefits like ad-free browsing (ads stink!), access to our premium room in The Chamber and monthly giveaways. The other thing it does is help stabilize our business into the future. As it turns out, sending folks on the road to cover games and provide 24/7 Pokes coverage like the excellent article you just read costs money. Because of our subscribers, we’ve been able to improve our work and provide the best OSU news and community anywhere online. Help us keep that up. After the Cowboys’ loss against Baylor, it seemed that 2019 would be the second straight season Oklahoma State was fighting for bowl eligibility rather than the accustomed 10-win season. But here the Pokes are after their 34-27 victory against TCU on Saturday, still within a puncher’s chance at double digit wins. The win against the Horned Frogs marks the first time OSU has won consecutive Big 12 games since October of 2017. The win also puts OSU at 6-3 with three regular season games to go before a 14th straight bowl appearance. The next two games are quite favorable to the Cowboys, as well. Kansas and West Virginia are at the bottom of the Big 12 standings. OSU will host Les Miles and Kansas on Nov. 16, after an OSU bye week, and travel to West Virginia on Nov. 23. Wins in those games would put OSU at 8-3 heading into a Bedlam game in Stillwater.Although those Kansas and West Virginia games look like wins on paper for OSU, seemingly nothing has come easy in the Big 12 this season. Pandemonium broke out last weekend with underdogs winning all four conference games. The Cowboys aren’t immune to the league’s madness either. Three teams have only one conference victory at this point: Kansas, West Virginia and Texas Tech. Tech’s lone digit in the conference win column came thanks to OSU.But only Baylor has been perfect in the Big 12 to this point, as even the Cowboys’ in-state rival fell last weekend. The Sooners’ loss came against a Kansas State team that OSU didn’t have a problem with in September. All that’s to say anything is possible for the Pokes down this final stretch. If the Cowboys win out (including their bowl game), they’ll secure Mike Gundy’s seventh double-digit win season.Surprisingly, Gundy-led teams have only finished with nine wins twice, in 2008 and 2009. In both of those seasons, though, the Cowboys finished the regular season with those wins before falling in a bowl game. Vegas would probably give odds that the Cowboys finish the 2019 regular season 8-4 with a loss to OU. In 14 years, Gundy has never finished the regular season 8-4.Kansas has sneaked up on teams this season. The Jayhawks forced Texas to kick a game-winning field goal as time expired and beat Texas Tech this year. Les Miles will likely throw the kitchen sink at the program he used to run in two weeks. After beating Kansas to start the year, West Virginia hasn’t put up much of a fight against anyone before Thursday. The Mountaineers lost to Baylor, the Big 12’s lone unbeaten team, by a field goal and in Waco no less. So, with how inconsistent OSU has been over the past few years, these final games seem far from locks. That inconsistency also brings some high highs, though, so anything can be possible in Bedlam.last_img read more

Tips for Google Checkout, YouTube freebies

first_imgThere have been two great pieces of news for the charitable sector in the past week:1. Google Checkout for Nonprofits: Google is offering its transaction processing service (the Internet giant’s answer to PayPal) for free to nonprofits through 2008. No fees come out of donations they process for your nonprofit until 2009, when they say rates will be $.20 + 2% per transaction.2. YouTube for Nonprofits: Google-owned YouTube is introducing a new nonprofit service called Broadcast Your Cause that provides your organization with a page for posting videos, viewer comments, — and, of course, a Google Checkout button for donations. In the coming months, nonprofit channels will get a centralized location on YouTube for added exposure. It’s extremely welcome to see a major for-profit player waiving fees for nonprofits – I sure wish the credit card companies would do the same. In addition to being a community service, the waived fees are a shrewd customer acquisition strategy for Google, which wants to increase the relatively modest adoption rates of Google Checkout. As part of this effort, they have offered Checkout free to everyone – not just nonprofits – through the end of this year. It’s also terrific to see YouTube making it easier for donors and potential supporters to react to the nonprofit videos with its Broadcast Yourself program. So should you take the Google Checkout plunge and whip out your videocamera in search of YouTube stardom? Yes — with some caveats. Here are some tips for playing with these great new – and free – tools. But before I share them, I want to remind you that I am VP of Marketing at Network for Good, a nonprofit which also offers donation processing for nonprofits. And our services aren’t free of all processing fees – but they do some important things that Google Checkout does not. So I’m not unbiased. But I’m wearing my blogger hat right now, not my day-job hat, and here’s what I’m thinking:1. You should try Google Checkout.Heck, you can’t do better than free. If you have the time, test it. But if you add Google Checkout to your website or on your YouTube page, I recommend doing two things. First, swiftly and warmly thank all the donors for which you receive contact information. (Google passes on the contact information of donors who agree to hear from you; otherwise, you don’t receive it as far as I can tell.) This is really important, because the Google Checkout process is fairly sterile – the experience is exactly like buying something. So you want to follow up with a warm-fuzzy message that assures them you received the donation and reminds people they made a wonderful gift that will accomplish great things.Second, and please note not everyone agrees with me on this, I recommend you look into registering in all of the states where you have donors. It’s the safe thing to do. This is one small downside of the program – Google does not do that for you. [Nonprofit donation processors that have the status of donor-advised funds (like Network for Good and Just Give) do.]2. You should not only offer Google Checkout. Why? Because you want an alternative for donors seeking some of the following options.-You need to give donors the option to make recurring donations, which you can’t do via Checkout. You want as many donors as possible giving to you every month on their credit cards – it’s convenient for them, it’s a steady source of money for you, and everyone’s happy because you’re spending your time thanking people rather than repeatedly asking them for more money. People also tend to give more over a year with this kind of program.-It’s good to have a donation solution that allows people to make gifts in honor of other people – we find about 20-40% of donors choose to do this (it’s highest in December).-You want to offer donors who aren’t lovers of Google or holders of Google IDs (which you need in order to use Checkout) another way to give. Without offering two things side-by-side, you have no way of knowing if you’re scaring off people. Here’s some information on who uses Checkout and their satisfaction levels.-If you’re getting any serious donation volume, you want to have a least one branded flow (it looks more professional and is a warmer experience) that allows you to own the relationship with the donor — and their contact information.3. You need to manage expectations about “overhead.”When you position Google Checkout on your site, it’s great to highlight that the option saves you money and encourage its use. But don’t go so far in pushing it that you start setting up donor expectations that there are no administrative fees involved in running your charity. There is no “free” in the nonprofit world. We all face this problem – we need money to keep the lights on, to fundraise, to pay staff, etc., but donors often want all of their money to go direct to beneficiaries. I think we should be efficient with overhead – and show our efficiency – but not create a false impression that we have no overhead. It could come back to bite us later.4. Play around with YouTube if you have already covered the online basics.I’m often asked by nonprofits if they should start a blog or play around with YouTube. My answer is usually yes, if you have already covered the basics. First things first – do you have a great page on your site that makes a compelling case for giving (you’ll need that for links on YouTube and elsehwere)? Are you collecting donations? Are you emailing donors with thanks and updates? Do you do outreach to existing bloggers and videographers? If you’re doing that, you’re ready for more ambitious things like video. And you’re ready for this wonderful primer from a bunch of bloggers on how to use video, courtesy of Getting Attention. Read ALL of this advice and then go play!last_img read more

Authenticity Invites Audiences to Connect with You

first_imgThe universe of communicators is all abuzz about authenticity. But what the heck is authenticity, and how do you put it to work for your nonprofit?I see authenticity (communications-wise) as being honest, direct and truthful, and conveying those values via accessible, straightforward messaging. True accessibility gives your audiences a way into what your organization really does and contributes to the communities it serves, rather than what you say you’re doing. It’s the difference between a cocktail party conversation with someone very closed, and someone more open, with whom you can get into a meaningful conversation on a topic important to both of you. With the closed-up conversationalist, you’re frustrated and somewhat bored since you can’t get below the surface. A few minutes of chitchat is all you can take, then you’re off to refill your drink. But with the person you can really talk to, time flies by. That person is being authentic, sharing herself with you. You both let down your usual filters, opening the door to a real connection.Storytelling — another hot subject for today’s communicators — is one of the best ways of conveying authenticity. You let your clients or program participants showcase the impact of your work. And, through relating your work via individuals — people with faces, families and work lives — you make it easy for your audiences to connect with your organization; emotionally and intellectually.Source: http://www.gettingattention.org/my_weblog/2007/07/your-nonprofits.htmlAbout the AuthorNancy E. Introduction to Second Life

first_imgBlogs, wikis, and podcasts are just a few of the burgeoning tools nonprofits use to connect, engage constituents, and collaborate. All have revolutionized the way people interact online, but a new 3-D, virtual world called Second Life is taking things one step further.Linden Lab’s Second Life is an immersive online world where nearly 850,000 (and growing) residents – also called “avatars” – can purchase their own property on land allotments, interact with other avatars, build anything imaginable, and buy and sell products and services. But unlike reality, Second Life avatars can also fly, make copies of certain products (say, a t-shirt) without any new materials, or take on completely different form – a fox, a space alien, or a hybrid of the two. The options are limited only by your imagination.Nonprofits are just beginning to use Second Life to promote their causes, network with one another, and creatively further their missions – paving the way for other organizations to do the same.Three such nonprofit trailblazers are Dave Pentecost (also known as avatar “Usu Ventura”), Barry Joseph (“Globalkids Bixby”), and Evonne Heyning (“In Kenzo”), all of whom work with children’s organizations in Second Life. These nonprofit professionals have all used basic technological know-how and some imagination to raise funds, generate awareness, and increase participation in their causes through Second Life.We caught up with Pentecost, Joseph, and Heyning to find out how they created a presence in Second Life, what advice they would offer other organizations, and how this new virtual world has benefited their causes.[All three interviews can be found in the related articles below].Nonprofit organizations are beginning to explore the possibilities of a presence and offering programs in Second Life. With a few adventurous having organizations led the way, it is becoming easier for you to learn about Second Life and evaluate whether or not this virtual world is an appropriate tool for your organization. All you need is a very basic level of technical aptitude, an Internet connection, some basic equipment, and an imagination. To learn more about Second Life and find out if it is right for your organization, join other nonprofits at one of TechSoup’s weekly in-world meetings. Email Signatures: A Missed Marketing Opportunity

first_imgAbout the AuthorNancy E. Schwartz helps nonprofits succeed through effective marketing and communications. As President of Nancy Schwartz & Company (http://www.nancyschwartz.com/), Nancy and her team provide marketing planning and implementation services to organizations as varied as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Center for Asian American Media, and Wake County (NC) Health Services.Subscribe to her free e-newsletter “Getting Attention”, (http://www.nancyschwartz.com/getting_attention.html) and read her blog at http://www.gettingattention.org/ for more insights, ideas and great tips on attracting the attention your organization deserves.NOTE: You’re welcome to “reprint” this article online as long as it remains complete and unaltered (including the copyright and “about the author” info at the end), and you send a copy of your reprint. I recommend cutting the street address (2 lines), line space, fax number, and email address and adding the organization’s web address.Recommendation (5 lines):NameTitleOrganization NamePhoneOrganization Web Address (URL) How to Create an Effective Email Sig LineFirst of all, keep it brief. A general rule of thumb is that a good sig line is four-six lines in length. Eight lines is the maximum length, but that is pushing it. Remember, those to whom you email frequently see your email signature line again and again.Must include: name, title, organization name, phone number, web addressOptional elements include:— Tagline (organizational or specific event, campaign, etc.)— Graphical elements such as a horizontal line to distinguish your sig line from the email.Inclusion of your email address is not recommended, since it’s in the “from” field of the email and gets forwarded with an email that’s passed on. It’s best to drive audiences to your web site for more contact information details such as your mailing address and fax number. Finally, always make sure to keep your sig lines up to date and remember to train your staff on creating their sig line as per organizational style.center_img Email signatures (also known as sig lines) are powerful, low-cost, high-return marketing tools (a virtual business card or ad) for your organization. What Is an Email Signature?Consider this: If your organization has 30 employees, each of whom sends 15 emails daily outside the organization, then (assuming 250 business days) that’s 112,500 business cards or ads distributed annually, at no cost. If you have 100 employees, that’s 375,000 cards or ads annually. In general, your email signature is information automatically added as the last few lines of your outgoing email to let people know who/where/what you are. Consider your sig line as your online business card with “callback” abilities. What a Strong Email Signature Does for Your OrganizationMaking the most of your sig lines, for yourself and every colleague in your organization, is analogous to leaving your business cards – but even more powerful. Most importantly, in this age when we’re all inundated with too many emails, your email signature is a clear signal to your recipient that the message is from you and provides the context (e.g., job title, organization name, and web site) that reminds that person who you are and enriches their understanding of your message. That’s a lot more than can quickly be deciphered from your email address in the “from” field.Beyond this most basic benefit, your email signature is a business card or ad that alerts the recipient to special news and enables them to have direct access to your web site or send email back to you with the swift click of a mouse. How a Consistent Email Signature Style Benefits Your OrganizationWhat’s critical is that everyone in your organization uses the same sig line format. Specifics such as name, title, email, and direct phone line obviously will change. However, certain elements (organization name, web site address, tagline) and the order of elements should be standard for all staff sig lines.Sig line consistency benefits your organization in the following ways:Builds a brand or recognizable identity for your organization. The sig line becomes a key element of overall branding.Serves as a cognitive flag, enabling email recipients to make connections among emails received from various members of your organization.Case StudyHere is an example of a good email sig and a recommendation to make it even stronger. To protect the innocent, I’ll use a generic version of the sample I was analyzing for this example.Example (9 lines):NameTitleOrganization NameStreet AddressCity, State, Zip CodePhoneFaxEmail More Creative Uses for Your Sig LineA signature line can be used much like a classified ad if you’re trying to motivate clients to use your services or register for your workshop. Add one line and/or a link. Examples include:A quotation to share your organization’s point of view.A call to contribute to a capital campaign or other fundraising focus. An issue-oriented tagline to promote an advocacy campaign. An announcement of a new program, service, or publication. An invitation to a special event, conference, or to subscribe to your email newsletter.last_img read more

YouTube Tips for Nonprofits

first_imgWe can learn a lot from the mass of highly successful viral videos on YouTube and other online communities. What makes these videos great is that they capture trends and emotions and express them in creative and entertaining ways.Unfortunately many nonprofit videos end up like watching bad public access TV. If your nonprofit video is six minutes long and as fresh as a canned PSA from the 1960s, you can benefit from borrowing these basic elements of viral video glory:1.) Be authentic.2.) Be homemade.3.) Be original.4.) Let someone else have the camera: a supporter, a beneficiary, whomever.5.) Give up control: let that someone else say what they want.6.) Give people a reason to watch and something easy to do.Take a look at your videos and see how many of these you’re following. It may be time for a re-make of your nonprofit’s online videos!last_img read more

No proposal to recognise one year Masters degree from foreign countries HRD

first_imgNew Delhi: There is no proposal at present to recognise one year postgraduate degree obtained from foreign countries, the HRD Ministry said Monday. The information was shared by Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ in response to a written question in Lok Sabha. “As per the current policy, equivalence is accorded by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) only for those Master’s degree awarded by approved, recognised or accredited foreign universities that are of two-year duration,” he said. Also Read – How a psychopath killer hid behind the mask of a devout laity! The minister said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on mutual recognition of qualifications at multilateral basis is not practicable due to variation in higher education system worldwide. “No such panel specifically to recognise one year Master’s degree from foreign university, has been set up. However, a committee under the chairpersonship of chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC), was set up to look into the problems of equivalence of qualifications, obtained in a foreign country, at various stages of education system. The committee gave its recommendations, which were centred around the principle of mutual respect for the academic sovereignty of each country,” Nishank added. Also Read – Encounter under way in Pulwama, militant killedHe said as per the recommendations of the UGC committee, India may enter into an agreement with such countries where there is a difference between recognition of degrees and they have put in place a rigorous system of approval, accreditation or quality assurance of their higher educational institutions. “Their programme of studies and an attempt may be made to recognise higher education institutions in the respective countries and such qualifications will be treated as equivalent to qualifications in India, level-by-level and vice versa,” he said.last_img read more

In the news today Oct 23

first_imgSeven stories in the news for Tuesday, Oct. 23———FEDS TO UNVEIL CARBON TAX REBATE PLAN TODAYThe federal government will take some of the sting out of its upcoming carbon tax today with a promise to give rebates directly to Canadians. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be in Toronto with Environment Minister Catherine McKenna where they will begin making a hard sell of their carbon pricing plan ahead of the next federal election. That sell includes offsetting the hit to a family’s pocketbook with carbon price rebates. They will also announce which provinces will see the federal carbon price applied.———PATRICK BROWN ELECTED AS BRAMPTON, ONT., MAYORMonths after sexual misconduct allegations forced him to step down as leader of Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives, Patrick Brown has made a political comeback — this time as a city mayor. The embattled politician has defeated Brampton Mayor Linda Jeffrey, a former provincial Liberal cabinet minister who was backed by several high-profile politicians, including some of Brown’s former colleagues. The municipal election was Brown’s latest attempt at resurrecting his political career after his dramatic resignation in January amid allegations he has vehemently denied.———TORY TROUNCES KEESMAAT TO TAKE TORONTO MAYORALTYToronto Mayor John Tory easily won re-election Monday, trouncing Jennifer Keesmaat, the city’s former planner after a campaign marked by unprecedented interference from the provincial government. But, at least a dozen other communities were forced to extend voting by as much as a day due to technical or other difficulties. In all, voters in more than 400 communities across Ontario cast ballots for their next municipal government. Entire councils in 26 municipalities were unopposed and were acclaimed.———NEW BRUNSWICK LEGISLATURE OPENS WITH THRONE SPEECHThe New Brunswick legislature opens today with the election of a Speaker and a throne speech. Premier Brian Gallant says his minority Liberal government listened to the message sent by voters in last month’s election and will present a throne speech incorporating many of the opposition parties’ campaign pledges. The Liberals won just 21 seats — one fewer than the Conservatives, while the Green and People’s Alliance parties each won three.———SEX ASSAULT TRIAL TO BEGIN FOR GYMNASTICS COACHThe sexual assault trial of a high-ranking former gymnastics coach gets underway in southwestern Ontario today. Dave Brubaker was charged with 10 sexual offences last December and was placed on administrative leave by Gymnastics Canada, where he had served as director of the women’s national team. Brubaker was Canada’s head gymnastics coach at the 2016 Rio Olympics and was the women’s national team director at the 2017 world championships in Montreal.———MANITOBA CHILD WELFARE AGENCIES CONCERNED ABOUT FUNDINGSome child welfare agencies in Manitoba are worried they will be pushed into a new provincial funding model they say will put vulnerable Indigenous children at risk. Most agencies in the province are given funding based on the number of children in care and the number of days they are in care. Under block funding, money isn’t tied to the number of children — allowing agencies some flexibility in how they spend it. Clemene Hornbrook, executive director at Peguis Child and Family Services, says the proposed model will leave the agency with a $3-million deficit.———‘INTERIM’ ICEBREAKERS TO BE USED FOR DECADESThe Canadian Coast Guard says three “interim” icebreakers that were recently purchased without a competition will be used for the next 15 to 20 years. Coast guard officials revealed the timeframe in interviews with The Canadian Press while playing down concerns about the state of their aging fleet — and the challenges in building replacements. The government in August agreed to sole-sourcing the purchase of three used icebreakers from Davie Shipbuilding for $610 million, saying a stop-gap was needed until replacements could be built.———ALSO IN THE NEWS:— Marcelo Ebrard, incoming foreign affairs minister for Mexico, speaks to Montreal Council on Foreign Relations.— The case of truck driver Jaskirat Sidhu, charged with dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily injury in a fatal crash involving the Humboldt Broncos team bus, will be in court.— Kennedy Stewart, Vancouver’s mayor-elect, and Grand Chief Stewart Phillip will hold a news conference on the federal government’s approach to reviewing the Trans Mountain expansion project.— Premier John Horgan and Green Leader Andrew Weaver speak at a rally in Victoria in support of proportional representation as the campaign continues in a provincial referendum on changing the electoral system.last_img read more

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Graham Hughes MONTREAL – Although there are no immediate plans for Pierre Karl Peladeau to return to a decision-making role at Quebecor Inc., chairman Brian Mulroney implied Thursday it is just a matter of time before he comes back in some capacity.Peladeau was not present at Quebecor’s annual meeting, but his name was still front and centre.Mulroney said Peladeau is not currently interested in returning to Quebecor (TSX:QBR.B) as he deals with what the former prime minister called a “personal problem.”“It’s his total priority,” Mulroney said in response to a question from a shareholder. “I met with him and he didn’t speak to me about anything else.“He expressed no interest in returning to (Quebecor) in a decision-making position in the near future.”Peladeau surprised observers last week when he announced he was quitting as Parti Quebecois leader and leaving politics entirely to spend more time with his children. He and his estranged wife, Julie Snyder, are currently in divorce mediation. At a later news conference Thursday, Mulroney suggested his return to Quebecor at some point is inevitable. The ex-prime minister noted Peladeau is still Quebecor’s controlling shareholder and that it is entirely possible they would eventually meet to discuss the ex-PQ leader’s future role in the company.“He is 52 or 53 years old (Peladeau is actually 54), I imagine he isn’t ready to retire,” he said.Although he did not say what type of position Peladeau would fill, Mulroney did not dismiss a scenario in which he would play a lesser role within Quebecor.During the meeting, Mulroney read a statement from Peladeau in which he expressed his trust in the current management team.Earlier on Thursday, Quebecor said it was raising its quarterly dividend by 29 per cent, to 4.5 cents per share from 3.5 cents per share, payable June 21.The Montreal-based parent of Videotron announced total first-quarter revenue grew five per cent to $975.4 million from $929 million, while net income more than doubled to $69.9 million from $29.4 million.Adjusted income rose to $67.7 million from $41.4 million. The profit amounted to 57 cents per share, or 55 cents after adjustments — up from 24 cents net income and 34 cents adjusted earnings in the first quarter of 2015.“We remain very upbeat about the corporation’s ability to generate growing cash flows,” said Quebecor chief financial officer, Jean-Francois Pruneau. Researcher looks at why fewer of us go out to vote

With Ontario preparing for a provincial election June 12, voter turnout in all levels of Canadian elections continues to hit historical lows. With Ontario preparing for a provincial election June 12, voter turnout in all levels of Canadian elections continues to hit historical lows.Canada is 127th out of 195 countries in terms of proportion of registered voters who exercised their right in the most recent federal parliamentary elections. Provincially, an Ontario byelection in Niagara Falls this year was fiercely contested on the campaign trail, but on election day fewer than four of 10 eligible voters showed up at the polls. The Niagara Community Observatory at Brock University has released a policy brief that examines this decline, reviewing voter turnout in Niagara Region and also discussing voting trends in a national context. Its author, Brock political science Associate Professor Livianna Tossutti, examines some of the reasons people give for not voting, and also looks at possible solutions that governments might consider. read more

Le 21 juillet 2010 à 11:27 • Emmanuel Perrinlast_img read more

State looks to improve 500 and Fourth Plain Clark Countys busiest intersection

first_imgClark County’s highest-volume intersection is getting some planning attention, but no immediate construction dollars to ease chronic congestion. The Washington State Department of Transportation has identified five packages of potential improvements to ease congestion and improve safety at the intersection of state Highway 500 and Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard in Orchards. On Wednesday, the public will get a chance to review the five packages when WSDOT hosts an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. in the commons area of Covington Middle School, 11200 N.E. Rosewood Ave., Vancouver. The open house will have a drop-in format, with no formal presentation. Attendees can meet with WSDOT staff, view possible improvement packages, ask questions and offer their own thoughts and ideas.“We really want to hear from the public,” said Kimberly Pincheira, WSDOT ‘s communications manager in Southwest Washington. “We are not doing this to just check the box.”Judith Perez, a WSDOT planner, said her agency isn’t looking for people to voice a preference for which package they prefer.“We are asking them to tell us what we are missing,” she said. All five of the improvement packages include some minor operational changes coupled with different levels of infrastructure improvements. The most ambitious option, which would elevate Highway 500/Highway 503 over Fourth Plain Boulevard, has a rough cost estimate of $75 million. WSDOT currently has no money to pay for new large projects.last_img read more

Russell Westbrook always wanted to be a one man show Now hes

first_imgWhen Colin was in his 20’s he didn’t want help from anyone. As he has gotten older, he’s learned that working with talented people makes work and life easier. Russell Westbrook was praised by many around the NBA for sticking with the Thunder as a one man-show when Kevin Durant left for the team approach of Golden State.Westbrook has 10 technical fouls on the young season, and last night he got one for throwing the ball at an official and hitting him in the face. Colin doesn’t know if he did it intentionally or not, but he does know that the pressure of carrying the franchise on his back every night looks like it’s getting to him.Meanwhile, Kevin Durant is having the time of his life because he’s surrounded by a great supporting cast in Golden State, and doesn’t have to be the man every night for his team to win.“Stop lauding people for loyalty. Laud them for the acceptance and understanding that playing with others, and being able to give up points, rebounds and stats is not a weakness, it’s a strength…..Westbrook is now miserable. Kevin Durant has never looked happier.”The media largely decides which sports figures can be ruthlessly criticized, and which ones are off limits. Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin is one of the coaches that the social mediasphere has decided is untouchable. Colin thinks Tomlin is a good coach, not a great one, and the idea he should be immune to criticism is absurd.Tomlin has one playoff win in five years with a Hall of Fame quarterback. If Pittsburgh loses to Miami this weekend, Tomlin will catch heat from all the same writers who were outraged at Terry Bradshaw’s critical comments of him last week.“Mike Tomlin took over a Super Bowl roster, the best defensive coordinator in the league, Dick LeBeau, and inherited Big Ben. He has one playoff win in five years. And you can’t criticize him?”Colin has never understood why coaches who get fired rush into bad jobs just to get back into coaching. The same applies for Chip Kelly, who was recently fired as head coach of the 49’ers.Kelly has said in an interview that he wants to get back into coaching, and has even expressed a willingness to take an offensive coordinator position. Colin thinks Kelly would be wise to sit on the sidelines for a year or two and wait for a great job, like the University of Tennessee, to become available.Taking a bad job just to take a job is what got Kelly in trouble with the Niners in the first place.“Just sit around for a year, Chip Kelly. Take a deep breath all you coaches.”Guests:A.J. Hawk – NFL Veteran linebacker joins the show to clear up internet reports about his retirement, if the Packers have a good enough defense to win the Super Bowl, what’s different from the playoffs, his relationship with Aaron Rodgers, and who he likes between Clemson and Alabama.Nick Wright – FS1 host and co-host of the Make Me Smarter Football Podcast is in-studio to explain why the Patriots won’t make it to the Super Bowl, why the Chiefs are a serious playoff threat, and why Colin is off base with his Andrew Luck love, why Luck is to blame for not demanding the firing of Chuck Pagano, and why Terrell Owens not getting into the Hall of Fame is a travesty.Marcedes Lewis – Jacksonville Jaguars tight end is in-studio to talk about meeting Russell Westbrook during their days at UCLA, his take on top prospects sitting out bowl games, why he thinks a solid family background makes a big difference for professional athletes, and his Top 3 tight ends of all-time.last_img read more
